Harmony through Balance
In response to stress and trauma at the physical, emotional, mental and spiritual levels the body's tissues contract. When unprocessed shock is severe enough the tissues remain contracted and the trauma becomes embodied. Any stresses, strains, tensions or traumas which have been stored by the body in this way, will restrict the body's functioning and may give rise to health problems over the years. These effects may be physical (back pain, migraine or digestive disorders), emotional (anxiety or depressive disorders) and mental (lack of concentration, lack of motivation). Embodied stress and trauma shows up in the way the CranioSacral Motion is expressed within the body. Therapists are trained to feel this subtle distortion of motion and use it to identify areas of restriction or congestion. Using CranioSacral techniques the therapist provides an opportunity for the body to let go its restrictive pattern and return to an easier mode of functioning. Embodied trauma will display itself either as alarm, where the individual is caught in a fight or flight pattern, or as shock, where the individual is frozen into a contracted and possibly disassociated state.
